On 21 September 2011, on the margins of the General Debate of the United Nations General Assembly, UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova and Queen Rania Al Abdullah of Jordan discussed the importance of keeping education high on the international agenda.

Speaking about UNESCO’s education initiatives currently underway, the Director-General underscored the Organization’s role in prioritizing education, making reference to the ECOSOC ministerial declaration.

Irina Bokova and Queen Rania agreed on the need to raise the profile of Technical and Vocational Education and Training programs, particularly in the eyes of the donor community, by emphasizing the strong benefits of skills development in contemporary societies.

In conclusion, they expressed their commitment to continue working with Governments as well as with private companies and foundations to mobilize the relevant stakeholders and resources necessary to achieve the Education for All goals.
