Ongoing consultation: Measuring mother tongue instruction in early childhood
According to UNESCO General Conference Resolution 12, the requirements of global and national participation, and the specific needs of particular, culturally and linguistically distinct communities can only be addressed by multilingual education.
From now until 23 July, a consultation on Mother Tongue instruction and Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) is taking place. Based on the document Enhancing learning of children from diverse language backgrounds: Mother tongue-based bilingual or multilingual education in the early years (UNESCO, 2010), the consultation aims at providing key stakeholders working in the field of languages and education with policy and practice of mother tongue instruction in a bilingual education approach in ECCE.
Key findings from the survey along with recommended actions will be shared on the UNESCO Education portal.
