Definition of "Recognized Higher Education Institution" in the United States:

A recognized higher education institution in the United States is an institution, or branch, that is accredited by a recognized accrediting organization. Recognized institutional accrediting organizations are those that are recognized by CHEA and the U.S. Department of Education.
