GMR celebrates EFA week
The GMR team is partnering with UNESCO’s field network to mark Education for All Global Action Week this year (2-8 May). During the week-long celebrations, UNESCO offices and partners will be joining to launch the 2011 edition of the EFA Global Monitoring Report, The hidden crisis: Armed conflict and education.
This year, Global Action Week will focus on the theme of "Girls' and Women's Education”. Some of the key messages of the 2011 report cover the specific education issues confronting girls and women today, including gender-based violence which has left millions with psychological trauma that negatively affects learning potential.
Various GMR launch events are being planned with different formats, for example; a policy discussion in Canberra, an event in Santo Domingo, a launch, concert and press conferences in Moscow, and a presentation and exhibition for the first time in Gaza this year. In Kinshasa, the GMR launch will be accompanied by several days of policy workshops and media events to discuss the Report’s main findings.
