UNESCO has been collecting good practices and policies to assist Member States and partners in integrating HRE in school systems.
Published in 1998 on the fiftieth anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, this practical and illustrated guide helps students and teachers at primary and secondary levels understand the basic universal elements of human rights. All Human Beings provides useful documentation, specific teaching materials and practical exercises. All materials can be developed according to the cultural context and local needs so that students can relate the meaning of human rights to their daily lives.
The “Compendium of good practices in human rights education in the school system, including citizenship education and education for mutual respect and understanding” is an interagency initiative of OSCE/ODIHR, OHCHR, the Council of Europe and UNESCO. The Human Rights Education Association (HREA) was retained as a consultant for this work.
