New UNESCO Brochure: Why teach Holocaust education?

The Holocaust was a turning point in human history. Understanding its significance, remains of great importance today: it can help students engage in a critical reflection about the root causes of genocide and foster their commitment to nurture peace and human rights as a means to prevent the recurrence of such atrocities.

The UNESCO brochure Why Teach about the Holocaust? allows interested policy-makers, educators and students to explore the educational potential of dealing with one of the darkest pages of our common history. It brings to the fore universal issues raised by the history of the Holocaust, presents educators with some of the main challenges and opportunities of teaching about genocide and provides an overview of the variety of resources available in the field.

The brochure, developed by UNESCO’s Education Sector, is available in the six official languages of the United Nations: English, French, Spanish, Russian, Chinese and Arabic
