Brazil: Complement and Strengthen existing Policy and Highlighting the role of Municipalities
Brazil has established a Federal Law in 2003, which states that teaching ethnic and racial relations, as well as African and Afro-Brazilian history is compulsory in basic school. The integrated approach of the TRA project addressing all forms of discrimination completes such legislation and provides a broader scope and means for teaching respect for all. The policy guidelines as well as the practical exercises are welcomed and used by education professionals to enrich their work with youngsters. The role of local authorities in struggling against discrimination is highlighted in Brazil through education, given their critical role in the decision-making and implementation processes regarding education.
