Indonesia Raise Awareness and Build Coalitions

UNESCO

The  country’s diversity in terms of cultures and religious confessions and its geographical characteristic being an archipelagic island country represent both richness and a challenge at the same time. The concept of TRA was used to further strengthen the existing human rights education policy aiming to promote learning to live together among populations with diverse backgrounds. The TRA implementation guide was first introduced to teachers, headteachers, youth NGO representatives and media professionals. They discussed how best the concept and tools can be introduced into the Indonesian reality. From these discussions emanated conclusions including the pivotal role played by the media and community leaders when tackling the issue of discrimination and intolerance and the need to build coalitions between different stakeholders at national, regional and local level. A series of capacity building workshops are being organized.
