UNESCO Chair on Genocide Prevention at Rutgers University
The Centre for the Study of Genocide and Human Rights of Rutgers University established a new UNESCO Chair in Genocide Prevention.
The Chair will foster research and education in the field of genocide studies and develop outreach activities on the prevention of genocide. The launching of this new Chair will contribute to strengthen UNESCO's core mission to promote peace and human rights globally, with a special focus on the history of genocide and mass atrocities, in line with UNESCO's involvement in the field of Holocaust and genocide studies.
The Chair will reinforce the existing network of UNESCO Chairs dedicated to education for peace and human rights, and complement the recently created UNESCO Chair for Genocide Education at the University of Southern California Shoah Institute Foundation.
The Chair will be officially launched on 10 October 2013, at Rutgers University, New Jersey, United States of America, in the presence of Mr Adama Dieng, the United Nations Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide.
