Back to topUNESCO Institute celebrates 60 years of promoting lifelong learning
Sixty years ago, Maria Montessori, Jean Piaget and other educators attended the first Governing Board meeting of the UNESCO Institute for Education in Hamburg, Germany (June 1951).
The forerunner of today’s UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning, the Institute’s mission was to promote human rights and international understanding. However, the Institute’s very first international seminar indicated its core task – adult education – which it continues to promote today.
