Early Childhood - Getting the Big Picture
On 25 May, young campaigners for education are joining the Director-General of UNESCO in a “Big Picture” event to celebrate the success of the 2012 Global Action Week on Education for All (22-28 April).
The Big Picture was the highlight of the 2012 Global Action Week on Education For All (EFA). To follow up, UNESCO and the Global Campaign for Education (GCE) are jointly organizing the event at UNESCO headquarters on Friday 25 May, from 3 to 3.30 p.m. Since the launch of Global Action Week (GAW) last April, GCE has collected thousands of children’s drawings, paintings and pictures from all over the world. They represent the aspirations of children for education and for their lives, and aim to mobilize additional support from the general public and policy makers for early childhood care and education.
A school bus will bring a selection of children’s pictures to UNESCO headquarters. A group of young campaigners for the right to education will hand them over to Irina Bokova, Director-General of UNESCO. Subsequently, Irina Bokova and Monique Fouilhoux, Chairperson of the GCE, will inaugurate an exhibition of selected GAW drawings. The exhibition will be held at UNESCO headquarters until 11 June 2012.
Global Action Week is a worldwide annual campaign organized by the GCE to raise awareness of the importance of Education for All. UNESCO actively supports the campaign by organizing activities at global, regional and national levels and by mobilizing networks and encouraging Ministers of Education and all EFA partners to participate.
