GIQAC Implementing Networks
The implementing networks for GIQAC activities are legal entities with either a global or regional scope. They are selected in compliance with the GIQAC Operational Procedure’s Manual and according to UNESCO procurement regulations. Implementing bodies must have membership comprised of quality assurance professionals practicing in higher education institutions, higher education institutions, ministries of education and/or other quality assurance bodies active in developing countries and countries-in-transition.
In the current grant period, GIQAC activities are being implemented by regional NGOs in Africa, Arab States, Asia-Pacific, Caribbean, Southeastern Europe, Central Asia and Latin America and one inter-regional NGO.
AAU is the coordinating body for the Africa region and primarily implements its activities through the African Quality Assurance Network (AfriQAN). AfriQAN is committed to the enhancement of the quality of higher education on the continent and also to collaboration with similar organizations on other continents. Membership comprises representatives from 46 African countries.
The implementing body for the Arab States region, ANQAHE’s stated goals are to support and enhance quality assurance organizations as well as to develop human resources and establish a mechanism of cooperation in the field of quality assurance in higher education in the Arab region.
APQN is the implementing body for the Asia and Pacific region and has membership comprised of representatives from approximately 25 countries from throughout the region. APQN is committed to strengthening national quality assurance agencies as well as communication between them for the purpose of enhancing the quality of higher education regionally.
CANQATE is the implementing body for the Caribbean region and was first established as a sub-network of the International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education. It is a professional body devoted to quality assurance in higher education in the Caribbean region.
ENQA implements activities under the GIQAC framework in the Balkans and Central Asia. The European Network for Quality Assurance in Higher Education was established in 2000 to promote European co-operation in the field of quality assurance. ENQA members are quality assurance organizations from the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) member states that operate in the field of higher education.
RIACES is the implementing body for the Latin America region. RIACES membership includes quality assurance agencies, government agencies, associations of universities and international organizations representing over 15 countries in the region.
INQAAHE is the implementing body on the inter-regional level. INQAAHE’s 20 years of experience allow it to provide a great deal of support and encouragement to emerging QA agencies, and more recently to emerging QA networks.
