Jan Sadlak is Professor at the Faculty of European Studies of the Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. In October 2009, he was elected President of the IREG Observatory on Academic Ranking and Excellence.
He was Professor and Vice-Rector for International Cooperation at the Warsaw School of Social Sciences and Humanities/SWPS (2009-11) and Director of UNESCO-European Centre for Higher Education (UNESCO-CEPES) (1999-2009). Prior to this position, he was staff member and later Chief of Section for Higher Education Policy at UNESCO, Paris (1992-1999).
Jan Sadlak is an internationally recognized and cited expert in higher education policy, governance and management at the system and institutional level. His research interests and publications include such topics as quality assurance, academic ranking and “world-class university”. He is a member of the governing boards of several academic organizations and editorial boards of leading journals in the field of higher education and science policy.
He holds a PhD (1988) in Educational Administration and Comparative Education from the SUNY/ University of Buffalo, USA, and M.A. (1968) in Economics from “Oskar Lange” Academy of Economics in Wrocław, Poland.
