In India, Director-General Highlights Role of Education and Cooperation for Inclusive Growth

During her visit to India from 9 to 12 November 2012, the Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, will stress the need to confront education quality challenges during the Ninth E9 Ministerial Review Meeting and highlight the significance of the newly-inaugurated Mahatma Gandhi Institute for Peace and Sustainable Development for shaping more equitable and inclusive societies.

Emphasizing the importance of collaboration to address climate change, she will sign an agreement with the Chancellor of TERI University, Dr Rajendra Pachauri, to establish a UNESCO Chair in Climate Science and Policy.

Mrs Bokova will also meet with key ministers linked to UNESCO's portfolio following a Cabinet reshuffle in October 2012, and with the UN Country Team.
