Experts rethink the education of the future
Twelve senior international education experts are undertaking a critical review of two landmark 20th-century education reports from 12 to 14 February at UNESCO Headquarters.
They will address the vision of education set out in in the Faure, Learning to Be (1972) and Delors, Learning: The Treasure Within (1996) reports and assess its relevance today, in the light of recent profound societal changes.
What elements of this vision are still relevant in today’s world? What needs to be refined, adapted, developed, or re-conceptualized to rethink the education of the future? With these and other questions, the Senior Experts Group will launch a prospective discussion to identify the needs and the new perspectives of the education of the 21st century.
These two reports promote a move “towards a humanism of knowledge, action and cooperation”, to cite the title of a forthcoming article in the International Review of Education by Georges Haddad and Jean-Pierre Aubin.
The Senior Experts Group was created on the initiative of the UNESCO Director-General, Ms. Irina Bokova, and will meet again in mid- 2013 to continue the debate.
