Regional workshop empowers youth to forge tolerant and peaceful societies

Youth activists came together in Amman, Jordan, this week to discuss how Global Citizenship Education (GCED) could be used to combat violence, intolerance, exclusion and discrimination to build peace. Selected from a field of more than 450 applicants, the 41 young change-makers from 23 countries analyzed common approaches to building peace and tolerance, establishing a clear set of messages and actions to help build a more peaceful and sustainable future.

UN Security Council Adopts Historic Resolution on Youth, Peace and Security

The United Nations Security Council today adopted an historic resolution on youth, peace and security, which for the first time in its history focuses entirely on the role of young men and women in peacebuilding and countering violent extremism. The resolution 2250 (2015), sponsored by Jordan, represents an unprecedented acknowledgment of the urgent need to engage young peacebuilders in promoting peace and countering extremism. It also positions youth and youth-led organizations as important partners in the global efforts to counter violent extremism and promote lasting peace.

A new Gender Report compiled by UNESCO’s EFA Global Monitoring Report (GMR) was launched at a side-event during the 38th UNESCO General Conference on 4 November. Ministers, including H.E.
