Advocacy Workshop on Global Citizenship Education for youth leaders from Eastern Europe

The United Nations Secretary-General’s Global Education First Initiative (UNSG GEFI), in partnership with Y-PEER Moldova, UNFPA Moldova and Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Moldova, organized an advocacy workshop on Global Citizenship Education (GCED) in Chisinau, Moldova, from 3 to 6 May 2016. The 30 participants who hailed from 18 Eastern Europe countries had the opportunity to gain a better understanding of the concept of GCED and its role in empowering young people to tackle some of the global challenges inscribed in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Eastern Europe workshop is part of a series of workshops organized by GEFI to empower youth to be at the forefront in advancing the GCED agenda.

During the course of the workshop, the participants, who were selected on the basis of their ongoing engagement and future commitment to bring about change in their communities, worked both individually and in groups, to identify advocacy goals for GCED and developed collaborative action plans using the planning tools in the Youth Advocacy Toolkit. The workshop, which was youth-led and participatory, also provided a platform for the youth participants to exchange ideas, experiences and solutions to mobilize action at the community, local and national levels in addressing the global challenges.
