Digital Report Released to Mark 5-year Mandate of GEFI

A digital report to highlight the major achievements of GEFI and its partners has been released to mark the 5-year mandate of the Secretary-General’s global initiative on education. The timeline of the report covers the key events to realize the Secretary-General’s vision to put Education First on the global agenda since its launch in 2012. The timeline includes the launch event of the initiative, formation of the Steering Committee and the Group of Champion Countries, hosting of four High-level events during the United Nations General Assembly, and other major international events such the World Education Forum (WEF).  

The Digital Report also covers all the activities such as the launch of the Youth Advocacy Toolkit in 2014 and the corresponding national and regional workshops that took place to build the capacity of youth advocating for Global Citizenship Education (GCED). The report also features defining moments such as the keynote speech of the First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama, at the GEFI High-level event during the 69th session of the UN General Assembly. Since 2016 marks the first year of action for Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG4), the report calls on viewers to get involved and to continue to raise their voices to ensure that education comes first and remains a priority for sustainable development.
