Youth Leadership Workshop on Global Citizenship Education

The United Nations Secretary-General’s Global Education First Initiative (UNSG GEFI), in cooperation with the Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding (APCEIU), will organize a Youth Leadership Workshop on Global Citizenship Education (GCED) from 11 to 16 July 2016 in Busan, Republic of Korea. The workshop aims to build the capacity of dynamic youth leaders from all over the world to advocate for global citizenship education.

In September 2015, world leaders gathered at the UN Summit to adopt the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development which includes Goal 4 on education and Target 4.7 on GCED. This workshop will provide a global platform for youth to share and discuss how they can contribute to building a more equal, just, prosperous and peaceful world by leading, advocating for and monitoring the successful achievement of Target 4.7.

Participants will be asked to develop youth leadership strategies for GCED and advocacy, reflecting on the global challenges and newly adopted Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Working both individually and in groups, the young people will identify the advocacy goals for GCED and develop collaborative action plans.

A total of 50 participants, between the ages of 18 and 24, will be selected on the basis of their past/ongoing engagement and future commitment in educating youth at the local and national levels around GCED. Participants must have a minimum of two years’ experience in youth advocacy activities, an understanding of GCED issues and priorities, and a proven record of influencing change at the local or national levels. Participants from all over the world are encouraged to apply through the on-line form HERE. Deadline for application is Wednesday, 25th of May 2016 at midnight (EST) and successful applicants will be notified on 3rd of June 2016.  Travel and local expenses will be covered for all successful applicants.
