Professor Maïlélé holds a PhD in French language and literature. He currently is the Special Adviser of the President of Niger and a Representative of Niger to the Executive Board of UNESCO.

He previously served as Senior Adviser to the Prime Minister in the areas of education, vocational training and social integration of young people and cultural activities (1996-2007).

Between 1986 and 1988, Professor Maïlélé was the Head of the Department of French Language and Literature at the Faculty of Humanities and Human Sciences at the Abdou Moumouni University in Niamey (Niger) where he previously worked as teacher and researcher since 1981.

Professor Maïlélé is the author of a large number of reports and studies on all levels of education, from basic to higher education, and on the Decennial Education Development Programme in Niger. His work also includes the National Policy Paper on higher education and research.
