For a new approach to development in Africa
The changes provoked by globalization and a movement towards greater regionalization are pushing Africa in new directions. This evolution is causing a major rethink of strategies for the continent’s development. UNESCO is contributing to this task with a conference at its Paris Headquarters on 5 September (3pm to 6pm, Room IX) entitled “For a Prospective Approach to Priority AFRICA”.
The conference will bring together institutional partners and representatives from intergovernmental organizations, civil society and media, to define the new objectives emerging in Africa and look at ways in which UNESCO can contribute to achieving them. Africa is one of UNESCO’s two top priorities, along with gender equality.
“Priority AFRICA: A prospective approach” will provide a conceptual support and a framework for reflection at the consultation meeting with UNESCO, the African Union Commission, the Economic communities and the sub-regional monetary Unions, which will take place at UNESCO Headquarters, from 6 to 7 September 2011.
Journalists wishing to cover the conference require accreditation.
