Zarifa Mgoyan (Zara)

The famous Russian singer Zarifa Mgoyan, known as Zara, was appointed UNESCO Artist for Peace in December 2016, in recognition of her commitment throughout her musical career, to promoting inclusion in particular of children and adults with disabilities.

In the Russian Federation, she is deeply engaged in a wide range of charitable activities through the Step Towards Charity Foundation, aiming to support children with disabilities. 

In her capacity as UNESCO Artist for Peace, Ms Mgoyan supports UNESCO’s work aiming to promote inclusion and empowerment of persons with disabilities, through education, sciences, culture, communication and information.

In December 2017, she contributed to the success of International Day of Persons with Disabilities at UNESCO Headquarters, dedicated to “Transformation towards sustainable and resilient societies for all”.
