Her Royal Highness Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg

Her Royal Highness Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg was appointed UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador in June 1997, in recognition of her efforts to promote education, women's rights and microfinance.

In her capacity as a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, H.R.H. Grand Duchess Maria Teresa visited numerous UNESCO projects in Nepal, Bangladesh, Bosnia, Burundi and Kenya.

In November 2004, Her Royal Highness the Grand Duchess participated, as Honorary President of the event "Africans from here and there and AIDS", organized at UNESCO Headquarters on the occasion of World AIDS Day and as part of the 2004 UNAIDS Global Campaign "Women, Girls, HIV and AIDS".

In January 2016, H.R.H. Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg organized, through her Foundation, the International Forum on Learning Disabilities in Luxembourg.

In 2019, the Grand-Duchess Maria Teresa initiated the international conference “Stand, Speak, Rise Up!”, which took place on 26 and 27 March in Luxembourg. It brings together survivors, leaders from the national and international community and from public, private, NGO, legal and academic sectors. This forum seeks to fight against sexual violence in fragile environments.
