Marcus Miller calls on artists to join the #DontGoViral campaign to combat the Infodemic in Africa

On Africa day which took place on 25 May 2020, UNESCO Artist for Peace Marcus Miller shows his support for UNESCO’s #DontGoViral Campaign

On this year’s Africa Day, UNESCO celebrated with a show by the Worldwide Africa Network (WAN) and a special edition of the ResiliArt debate dedicated to the #DontGoViral campaign. Committed Artists joined in support of the campain, aiming to combat the fake news “infodemic,” or wide spreading of false information that has followed the global pandemic.

Participants of the debate discussed the role of artists in fighting the “infodemic,” in order to share and amplify crucial information among fans and followers, reaching an immense audience to address the crisis.

On that occasion, UNESCO Artist for Peace, bass player and jazz musician Marcus Miller shared a crucial message in support of fighting the “infodemic”: “We need to share our creative gifts and create a message of solidarity so we can figure out our response to this COVID-19 situation, our recovery to this COVID-19 situation.” He added. “We need to spread as much information as we can, and we need to combat misinformation because there is a lot of that out there. We need to celebrate our diversity to combat this viral adversity.”
