« The Chained Elephant » a cartoon from Guila Clara Kessous for the International Day of Peace

@GuilaClaraKessous

In the framework of the International Day of Peace on 21 September, Guila Clara Kessous, UNESCO Artist for Peace, created a cartoon inspired by Jorge Bucay’s tale “The chained elephant”. The ending music, Schubert Impromptu No 4, is performed by UNESCO Artist for Peace Elisso Bolkvadzé.

An actress by education, Guila Clara Kessous, continues, with this cartoon, her work of using the communication tools based on theatre and psychology to help each of us to overcome our sorrows in a process of resilience. This new initiative is thus in line with the ResiliArt movement launched by UNESCO to encourage artists to create and provide solutions to be part of a resilient global response to the pandemic.

On the occasion of this day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, Guila Clara Kessous highlights through this tale of “The Chained Elephant”, that we are often restrained by ourselves and attached to stakes from which we feel incapable to free ourselves. Peace and freedom cannot be separated, for no one can be at peace until she or he is free.

Guila Clara Kessous was also awarded with the Global Gift Women Empowerment Award 2020 for her work on women’s leadership. On that occasion, she said that she works “to help women break through the glass ceiling and engage in entrepreneurship.”
