Her Royal Highness Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan of Jordan, UNESCO Special Envoy for Science for Peace

Her Royal Highness Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan of Jordan was appointed UNESCO Special Envoy for Science for Peace in October 2017.

This title was bestowed upon her in recognition of her efforts to promote science as a power to bring countries together and to contribute to positive changes in society, and for her commitment to strengthen the development of scientific thinking in Jordan and beyond.

In her capacity as a UNESCO Special Envoy, Her Royal Highness Princess Sumaya bint Hassan supports UNESCO’s wok in the field of Science Diplomacy and contributes to foster cooperation between scientists.

Her Royal Highness has been a supporter of the SESAME facility for over a decade and has raised awareness of the project at numerous events. Under the auspices of UNESCO, the Synchrotron-light for Experimental Science and Applications in the Middle East (SESAME) laboratory aims to boost research in the Arab World and foster cooperation in the region.

In November 2017, H.R.H. Princess Sumaya chaired the World Science Forum entitled “Science for Peace”, which took place for the first time in the Arab World in Amman, Jordan.
