UNESCO holds first Culture and Development Week in Ha Noi

Ha Noi, 28 February 2012 - UNESCO will shortly be holding, for the first time in Viet Nam, a Culture and Development Week, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and a number of national and sub-national partners. The Week, which will take place from 5–9 March 2012 in Ha Noi, will feature a series of events, including policy dialogues, roundtables, book launch discussions and film nights where the multifaceted relationship between culture and development will be discussed and illustrated.

First Workshop “UNESCO World Heritage Site Museums Programme: Revitalising World Heritage Site museums in Cambodia, Laos and Viet Nam”

Following the brainstorming session held in July in Siem Reap, Cambodia, the first experimental workshop will be organised at the Thang Long Citadel Site Museum in Hanoi, Viet Nam, with the participation of 9 museums relating to cultural sites of the three countries.

UNESCO assists Viet Nam in updating its communications curricula

Ha Noi, 6 October – UNESCO and the Ministry of Information and Communications organized a workshop to share recommended curricula for Viet Nam’s National University of Information and Communications (NUIC), to be established in the coming years.

Viet Nam hosts advocacy day for Education in Emergencies

Ha Noi, 28 September – The Ministry of Education and Training, UNESCO, UNICEF and Save the Children co-hosted the “Education in Emergencies Advocacy Day” to share Viet Nam’s experience in this area as well as the ministry’s Action Plan to implement the National Strategy for Natural Disaster Prevention, Response and Mitigation. In addition, international experience and good practices from around the world were presented.

International Literacy Day 2011

Ha Noi, 8 September – First celebrated in 1966, International Literacy Day was proclaimed by UNESCO to remind the international community of the status of literacy and adult learning across the world. This year’s celebration recognizes the link between literacy and peace. On the occasion, Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, states that: “Literacy is a prerequisite for peace because it carries multiple benefits, cutting across the human, cultural, social, political and economic spheres.”
