Besides signaling the end phase of the 2012-2016 One Plan in Viet Nam, 2016 marked a significant milestone for UNESCO Ha Noi with the first year implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UNESCO and the Government of Viet Nam for the period of 2016-2020.

Signed in December 2015, the MoU builds upon the previous 2010-2016 MOU and reflects UNESCO’s Medium-Term Strategy, setting the pace for an even closer connection and more active coordination between the Organization and the Government, as both embrace the challenge and opportunity of aligning national priorities with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The MOU details the Government and UNESCO’s cooperation in the strategic areas of education, natural sciences, social and human sciences, culture, communication and information and gender equality through 34 overarching targets.

With progress in fulfilling the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in holistic programme activities, UNESCO Ha Noi finds advancement in its work on developing the country’s capacity, particularly in the areas of education, natural science, culture and communication and information.
