Award ceremony for the “World Heritage in Your Hands” Art Contest
21 June 2013 – Today at the Sculpture Garden in Hoi An City, an award ceremony will be organized for the “World Heritage in Your Hands” Art Contest, in collaboration with the Quang Nam Provincial People’s Committee.
The nationwide contest, launched in November 2012 by Panasonic Viet Nam and UNESCO Viet Nam, in partnership with Management Boards of World Heritage sites in Viet Nam and their respective provincial and city authorities, encourages young people to reflect upon the importance of World Heritage sites and celebrate the preservation of these sites for future generations.
Thousands of entries were submitted, from which 11 entries were selected to receive final prizes. Winning artworks are being printed on souvenir products, conveying the message on the importance of heritage preservation to visitors while increasing revenues for World Heritage Management Boards for conservation activities.
The award ceremony, part of UNESCO Culture and Development Week 2013 will be organized at the opening of the ASEAN Cultural Heritage Space exhibition showcasing Viet Nam’s and Southeast Asia’s cultural heritages, tourism products, and typical craft items. The exhibit is one of the key events of the 5th Quang Nam Heritage Festival celebrating the 10th anniversary of the 2003 Convention on the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage and the cultural diversity of the Southeast Asian Region and Viet Nam.
During the ceremony, UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova will present awards to the winners.
