In September 2015, global leaders convened in New York to commit to a groundbreaking new Agenda set out by the United Nations paving the way for a brighter and more sustainable future. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is comprised of a comprehensive set of goals that aim to end global poverty, protect the planet and ensure that men, women and children are entitled to peace and prosperity.

Education is unquestionably the driving force behind sustainable development, and by providing quality education and guidance to those most affected by humanity’s harshest plights, there is little doubt that the goals outlined within the Agenda are needed.

As the United Nations specialized agency for education, UNESCO plays a pivotal role in ensuring the success of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through its unwavering commitment to education.

Each year, the Vietnamese education system continues to build on its achievements. More and more children and adults are able to access education, alleviate themselves from poverty and look towards a better future. Yet, modern-day social, economic and environmental challenges have brought about a need for educational support that provides the Vietnamese people with the knowledge and skills to tackle these issues.

UNESCO is dedicated to working alongside the Vietnamese Government and its partners in achieving educational development contributing to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
