Introduction

UNESCO Asia and Pacific Regional Bureau for Education (UNESCO Bangkok) is currently implementing the “Enhancing National Capacity in Fostering Digital Citizenship Education in Asia-Pacific” project, supported by the Government of the Republic of Korea. The project aims to support Member States in building national capacity to make informed policy decisions to foster digital citizenship in education systems. One of its core components is “Digital Kids Asia Pacific (DKAP)” that seeks to establish a Digital Citizenship Competency Framework (“Framework”) to guide baseline understanding of children’s perceptions, attitudes and use of ICT in the classroom and at home on a comparative region-wide basis.

To assist Member States in developing a baseline understanding of children’s perceptions, attitudes and use of ICT, research instruments and methodologies have been developed by a regional research team from the Institute of School Violence Prevention at Ewha Womans University, Republic of Korea. They will be tested by the national research teams in some pilot countries (Bangladesh, Fiji, the Republic of Korea and Viet Nam). The research results are expected to be published in the first quarter of 2019.
