Regional workshop on measuring CSE delivery in Eastern and Southern Africa set for Zimbabwe

UNESCO Regional Office for Southern Africa (ROSA) will host a regional workshop on measuring the delivery of comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) in Eastern and Southern Africa (ESA) from 12th to 15th September 2017 in the resort town of Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.

Central to the workshop will be capacity building of countries in ESA on effective monitoring and evaluation of the education sector responses to HIV, sexually transmitted infections, gender-based violence, early and unintended pregnancy, through the delivery of CSE. It will also explore the integration of internationally recognised core indicators to measure education sector responses to HIV and AIDS into Education Management Information System (EMIS) of countries in the region.

The workshop will provide a platform to facilitate the integration of core indicators into EMIS for countries yet to undergo the integration process and to strengthen capacity of countries in data management.

Workshop delegates will participate in concurrent sessions on data collection, analysis, interpretation, reporting and utilization following the needs relevant to the countries at different stages in the process of integrating CSE-related core indicators into data collection systems.

The capacity building workshop which is part of the work UNESCO has been implementing in the ESA region, comes at the backdrop of the 2013 ESA Ministerial commitment which provided political momentum that led many governments in the region to scale up the delivery of CSE in schools.

Approximately 80 delegates including education policy-makers, EMIS government officials, UNESCO National Programme Officers, Sexuality, Health and HIV focal persons from 17 countries in the region are expected to attend the workshop.
