ROSA senior staff review implementation of the Regional Support Strategy

UNESCO Regional Office for Southern Africa (ROSA) senior staff met for a one-day retreat in Harare on 11th July 2019 to review progress in the implementation of the Office’s Regional Support Strategy (RSS).

The retreat which was held under the theme, “Consolidating success – addressing challenges - creating opportunities,” inculcated a common vision and approach in the further implementation of the Strategy amongst staff.

Speaking at the retreat, ROSA Regional Director, Prof. Hubert Gijzen said the retreat came at an opportune time following the arrival of new Units Heads in Natural Sciences, Social and Human Sciences as well as Communication and Information.

“This retreat is important for all of us, especially new colleagues, to get a better understanding of the ROSA Regional Support Strategy,” he said.

The retreat was organised along the four pillars of the Regional Support Strategy:  Programme, Resource Mobilisation, Partnerships and Communication and Visibility Strategies. Staff exchanged their experiences in implementing the Strategy with particular focus on the four pillars.

After some thorough discussions, the meeting adopted several action points. These include the need to complete the Office’s donor mapping exercise; establishment a project development team; identification of platforms for strengthening partnerships; training of staff on drafting press releases and news flashes; strengthening media engagement through breakfast forums for journalists and finalisation of the Resource Mobilisation Action Plan. The Units agreed to work on some flagship programmes and mobilise resources for them.
