Stakeholders meet to validate report on the state of TVET in Zimbabwe

UNESCO and the UN Inter Agency Task Force on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), in conjunction with the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development are convening a one-day workshop on 22 March 2018 in Harare to validate a report on the state of TVET in Zimbabwe.

The report is an outcome of a process that began in May 2018 when three TVET experts, two from UNESCO HQ’s Section on Youth, Literacy and Skills Development, and an external consultant conducted a situation analysis of TVET in the country. The process ended with the compilation of a report that will be presented for validation by stakeholders in TVET.

The report looks into five strategic priority areas for consideration and development:

  • reviewing the policy and institutional structure in TVET;
  • engaging employers and industries in TVET;
  • qualification systems and the regulatory framework of TVET;
  • equitable and quality TVET for all young people and adults;  and
  • financing scheme and resources allocation.

Participants are expected to enrich the report before it is finalized. The workshop will bring together high-level representatives from government ministries with technical training programmes and propose a roadmap for taking forward the report.
