Red Ribbon Award opens for 2012 nominations
The 2012 Red Ribbon Award has been opened for nominations on World AIDS Day, 1 December 2011, as people come together in global solidarity for people living with HIV. Strongly supported by UNESCO and awarded biannually, the award will be given to ten civil society organisations that show outstanding community leadership and action on HIV and AIDS.
The award is sponsored jointly by the United Nations and civil society partners, and is highly sought by community organizations around the world. Recipients of the 2012 award will receive a grant of US$ 10,000, as well as international visibility and additional opportunities for funding and support.
Nominations will be accepted from 1 December 2011 through 29 February 2012 in the following five award categories:
- Prevention of sexual transmission;
- Prevention among people who use drugs;
- Treatment, care and support;
- Advocacy and human rights;
- Stopping new HIV infections in children and keeping mothers alive, and women’s health.
