UNESCO celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Félix Houphouët-Boigny Peace Prize. The ceremony was held at UNESCO Headquarters, on 27 October 2009.


The ceremony was attended by:

The Director-General of UNESCO, Mr Koichiro Matsuura, the Vice-President of the Jury and former President of Portugal, Mr Mário Soares, members of the Jury and the International Commission for Research Peace, Mrs Irina Bokova, Director-General elect, and numerous ambassadors and permanent delegates.

President Henri Konan Bédié, Sponsor of the Prize, was represented by Mr Alphonse Djédjé Mady, former Minister of Côte d'Ivoire, and Secretary-General of the PDCI-RDA.

The ceremony ended with a performance by the great Cape Verdean singer, Mrs Cesária Évora, and her orchestra:
