World Press Freedom Day: Media Freedom to transform the Iraqi society

On 3 May 2012 and for the World Press Freedom Day, UNESCO Iraq office together with the Human Rights' Office at the United Nations Assistance Mission to Iraq (UNAMI), the Human rights Committee at the Iraqi Council of representatives and the International Media Support organization, organized a major conference at the Iraqi parliament to celebrate this special occasion and discuss the status of Freedom of press in Iraq and the ways to enhance it.

Ministry of Education and UNESCO Iraq to establish 125 new community learning centres

The government of Iraq and UNESCO took a major step towards eradicating illiteracy and improving access to education in the country. After a series of bilateral meetings, His Excellency the Minister of Education, Dr. Mohamed Temim and the UNESCO Iraq office Director Mr. Mohamed Djelid have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that will enable the establishment of community learning centres (CLCs) throughout Iraq in partnership with civil society organizations.
