Launching the “Curriculum Development in Iraq” Project
UNESCO Offices in Iraq and Doha, in consultation with Iraqi education authorities and stakeholders, organize a workshop corresponding to the official launching of the project “Curriculum Development in Iraq”.
A two day workshop was held in Doha within the framework of the project of “Curriculum Development in Iraq” which is being implemented by UNESCO with the partnership of the Office of Her Highness Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser Al Missned, First Lady of Qatar and UNESCO Special Envoy for Basic and Higher Education.
The workshop was opened by Dr. Abdullah Al Kubaisi, the Executive Director of Her Highness’ Office (HHO), Dr. Hamed Hammami, Director of UNESCO Doha Office and Mr. Mohamed Djelid, Director of UNESCO Iraq Office. It was also attended by relevant education partners and stakeholders including 18 Iraqi MOE representatives (Baghdad and Kurdistan MOEs), representatives from HHO, Qatari resource persons, UNESCO IBE experts, and international consultants.
The aim of this project is to contribute to modernization and reconciliation in Iraqi society through rebuilding Iraqi school curriculum and textbooks along side with teacher professional development to enhance educational practices as part of the reform and development strategy.
The main outcomes of the workshop were to form a shared understanding of the project’s scope, objectives, expected outcomes and working strategies; to map out needed working groups and support structures; and to agree on a detailed three-year implementation plan.
UNESCO Iraq Office and UNESCO Doha Office, working hand in hand to contribute to the success of the workshop, seize this opportunity to express their sincere appreciation to Her Highness Sheikha Mozah and her Office for its partnership and constant support to rebuilding education in Iraq.
