Prime Minister of Kurdistan Region and US Assistant Secretary of State explore Sulaymaniyah Museum

On Friday December 2, 2011, Mr. Jeffrey Feltman, US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, and Mr. Alexander Laskaris, US Consul General in Erbil, paid a visit to Sulaymaniyah Museum accompanied by Dr. Barham Salah, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region and his wife H.E Sarbagh Salah.

The visitors were received by the Director of Sulaymaniyah Antiquity, Mr. Kamal Rashed, the Director of Sulaymaniyah Museum Mr. Hashim Hama and UNESCO representative Sami Al-Khoja.

The guests were given a brief of UNESCO’s work in the museum and a tour of the museum by Mr. Hama. The Sulaymaniyah a Museum is arguably one of the finest archaeological museums in Iraq, and has a committed management and staff determined to bring it into the 21st century.

UNESCO is assisting the Kurdistan Regional Government to protect and promote the multiethnic Iraqi national heritage by introducing and disseminating the best of international museological practices and related museum expertise into the Museum, in addition to developing educational programs for secondary school teachers and students visiting the Museum.
