Involved in the reconstruction of higher education sector in Iraq, UNESCO is collaborating with Geneva International Peace Research Institute (GIPRI) to strengthen teachers' and researchers' capacities.

UNESCO has been collaborating with GIPRI in the following areas

  1. The Babylon Research Program (2007 - 2010):
    The program aims at allowing Iraq to renew its links with its cultural past, and to correct the cultural and scientific collapse of the last twenty years.
  2. RISIPRI Network:
    A framework to facilitate information exchange to assist Iraqi scholars to integrate within the European Scientific Community and encourage cooperation and research to help Iraqis play an active role in the International Scientific Community.
  3. Geneva Seminar on Iraqi Universities (SEGUI) (Geneva, 2007):
    Aims at consolidating RISIPRI network and constitutes a key phase in the kick-off of the Babylon Research Program.
