Teacher Training Programme for Basic and Secondary Education
The key challenges related to teacher education and training in Iraq have been identified as outdated knowledge of teachers in their fields of specialty (teaching subjects) and the lack of usage of modern teaching methodologies that are appropriate for their teaching subjects. Other key challenges related to teacher education and training are related to the poor infrastructure of the In-Service Teacher Training Institutes that have been established at the central and governorate level, as well as the limited capacity of both Ministries of Education (MoEs) in the fields of planning, managing and monitoring comprehensive programs for teacher preparation. These challenges are largely due to the lack of reliable data and acomprehensive National Teacher Educationand Training Strategy.
The Qatari-funded Teacher Education and Training Project aims to assist the Government of Iraq toaddress these challenges comprehensively, through a series of targeted activities, over the coming fouryear period.
