23.11.12 Official Visit of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn for “Improving the Quality of Life of Children and Youth” Project in Bogor

On 18-21 November 2012 HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn made an official visit to Indonesia. Following official meetings at the Royal Thai Embassy, with H.E. Prof. Dr. Boediono (Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia), and with H.E. Prof. Dr. Ir. KH. Mohammad Nuh, DEA, HRH Princess Sirindhorn visited Public Primary School 4 Kedung Badak (Bogor City) and Public Primary School 02 Cibadak (Bogor District) which were selected to be supported for their project on “Improving the Quality of Life of Children and Youth”. The collaborative project between the Republic of Indonesia and the Royal Kingdom of Thailand would be implemented within the scope of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s role as UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for the Empowerment of Minority Children through Education and through the Preservation of their Intangible Cultural Heritage as appointed by the then UNESCO Director-General Mr. Koichiro Matsuura in 2005.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted on 10 December 1948, expresses the values and fundamental freedoms that lie at the heart of a united humanity. The Declaration is one of the most humanistic and inspiring texts ever written – it is also a call to action, for people and governments to join forces to raise awareness about and enforce human rights and to ensure that they are exercised in full.

At a time of uncertainty and change, we are duty-bound to observe the principles of human dignity and fundamental freedoms – there can be no justification for breaching them. Human Rights Day gives us an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to these values and our resolve to put them into practice across the world for all to enjoy.

As long as people are prevented from asserting their basic rights, the humanist struggle for human dignity must continue. We must ensure silenced voices are heard – silenced because they are marginalized, subjected to discrimination, live in poverty, do not know or cannot ex...

10.12.12 Launching of MATRESK SALON in the Community Learning Centre of Kraras in Viqueque Vila Sub-District in Viqueque, Timor-Leste

The historical village of Kraras in Viqueque district saw the first salon launched today in the Community Learning Centre of Kraras in Bibleo, Viqueque Vila Sub-District in the district of Viqueque. The Director of the National Directorate for Recurrent Education, Mr. Filomeno Lourdes dos Reis Belo officially launched the MATRESK SALON of the Kraras Community Learning Centre accompanied by the Viqueque District Education Director, Mr. Daniel Sarmento Soares; with the presence of Mr. Remegio Alquitran, UNESCO CapEFA Consultant representing Mr. Anwar Alsaid, Chief of Education Unit of UNESCO Jakarta; and the District and Sub-District Coordinators of the Recurrent Education in Viqueque District. In attendance also during the launch are the Village Chief, Mr. Jose Marques Amaral and his local authorities with members of the CLC and the community of Kraras present to see the first beauty salon established in the area.

10.12.12 Launching TAHINE SALON in Ililapa Community Learning Centre, Lautem District, Timor-Leste

Under activities funded by the CapEFA Timor-Leste programme of UNESCO Jakarta Office in providing opportunities for generating income to the members of the Community Learning Centre (CLC) in Lautem District, a life skill training on hair cutting and beauty salon currently being conducted that commenced last 03 December 2012 until the 14th of December 2012 resulted in the actual establishment of a hair and beauty salon named as TAHINE SALON. The salon is launched inside the building of the CLC located in the village of Ililapa and the inauguration is attended by around 70 participants comprising mostly youths who live around the CLC, Vice-Minister of Education for Basic Education, NDRE Director and Staff, UNESCO Jakarta Office and UNESCO Dili Antenna Office, sub-district government representatives, as well as Chief of the village.
