Cities, Social Inclusion, and Promotion of Rights of Persons with Disabilities: High Level Seminar on Inclusive Cities

The High Level Seminar on Inclusive Cities Cities

The High Level Seminar on Inclusive Cities Cities, Social Inclusion, and Promotion of Rights of Persons with Disabilities: High Level Seminar on Inclusive Cities on 31 October 2017 at Le Meridien Hotel in Jakarta, is a joint initiative of UNESCO, ILO, WHO and APEKSI (Association of Indonesian Municipalities), organized to showcase the results of the UN project on Promoting the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNPRPD) in Indonesia, and to chart the future for the Network of Mayors for Inclusive Cities.

The Seminar will feature Mayors from across the country presenting the policies and initiatives that enable positive transformations in their cities. The Seminar will also generate an exchange between the national and city authorities about effective ways to engage the cities in the realization of Indonesia’s SDG framework, implementing the national law on disability of 2016, and replicating good practices in disability inclusion in cities throughout the country.

UNESCO, in partnership with ILO and WHO, has been working with the Indonesian government to promote social inclusion of persons with disabilities. Funded by the UN Partnership on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNPRPD, phase II), and developed through the UNCT Human Rights Working Group, the joint project has made significant contribution to the national and local efforts towards disability inclusion. The Background Document  indicates the main achievements of this effort to date.
