Green School Teacher Training Centre Opened

On Thursday 8 November 2012, UNESCO Jakarta officially opened the Green School Teacher Training Centre at the Banjarmasin Educational Authority. The Training Centre will serve as a resource for environmental and climate change educational training and was developed under the KOICA Indonesia-supported Green School Action Project in Banjarmasin.

The opening ceremony, hosted by Mr. M. Irwan Anshari, the Vice Mayor of Banjarmasin City, and Mr. Hesly Junianto, the Head of Banjarmasin Education Authority, and attended by Sungho Choi, Resident Representative of KOICA Indonesia and Noor Endah Mochtar from the Indonesian NatCom for UNESCO, featured an official facility hand-over from UNESCO to the Banjarmasin Education Authority and the signing of an MOU to establish mutual cooperation between UNESCO, the City of Banjarmasin and the Banjarmasin Education Authority in developing and advancing Education for Sustainable Development.

In his remarks during the event, Mr. Hubert Gijzen, Director and Representative of UNESCO Jakarta, emphasized the important role that the Teacher Training Centre would play in providing teaching and learning on sustainable development practices and concepts to Banjarmasin’s educational community.

The Centre’s 26 computer workstations features remote desktop technology that allowed for live congratulatory remarks to be delivered via video conference by Mr Hendarman, Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Culture.
