School Visit to UNESCO Office, Jakarta
Jakarta, 2 June 2014, SD Negeri Manggahang 01, Baleendah, Bandung, West Java visited UNESCO Office, Jakarta. Fifty children and six teachers attended the one hour brief information on learning on UNESCO activities and programmes, and specifically on education programmes in Indonesia
The visit was opened by Mr. Shahbaz Khan, the Deputy Director of UNESCO Office, Jakarta. He inspired and motivated children to study hard to achieve their future goals and shared information, including the UNESCO mandate in member state countries, with the visitors. He also explained that the Angklung, the traditional music instrument from Java, is listed by UNESCO as an example of cultural heritage. After a brief introduction about UNESCO Office, the Education Unit presented examples of its projects including CLCC, Green School and HIV/AIDS and School Health. The interactive presentations and videos were followed by Q&A with children and finished by the Ecological Science Unit orangutan awareness campaign video.
Children and teachers were presented with IEC materials, such as books, brochures, posters, calendars and stickers from projects in all units. Special presents such as an orangutan doll, UNESCO note books and T-shirts were given to children who actively participated in the discussion.
To close the visit a teacher thanked UNESCO for the hosting the school and for the learning given. The school committed to encouraging children to study harder in order to develop better a future for all.
