SDG4 – Joint Actions to Sustain Our Life at the 7th ESD Meeting

06 June 2017, Dili, Timor-Leste. UNESCO Office Jakarta in collaboration with the Timor-Leste National Commission for UNESCO organized the 7th Annual Meeting of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) 2017. This meeting gathered 50 participants representing the UNESCO Jakarta Cluster Countries; Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Timor-Leste. Present at the Opening of the meeting were the Ambassadors of the cluster countries, Director General of Education, international as well as national organizations, universities and schools.

Dr. Shahbaz Khan, Director and Representative of UNESCO Jakarta in his welcome remarks encouraged everyone to play their part and take action towards a sustainable future through Education for Sustainable Development, as an important target of SDG-4. Dr. Khan also emphasized that ESD can be achieved through a collaborative action by everyone.

Speaking on behalf of the Vice-Minister I, the Director General, Mr. Cidalio Leite welcomed all participants to Dili in which the participants can learn from the ESD initiatives implemented in Timor-Leste. He conveyed the Ministry’s  suggestion that all countries in the region to work together in areas of environmental action and culture to sustain the future life of the people, especially those who are experiencing the impact of climate change.

The sharing of good practice and lessons learned from the ESD implementation from cluster countries took place after the opening session.
