National Consultation Meeting in Timor-Leste

Dili, 29-30 October 2018. UNESCO Jakarta in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, and the National Commission for UNESCO organized the 1st National Consultation Meeting on SDG4-Quality Education, taking place in Dili, Timor-Leste. The meeting aims at supporting the Government of Timor-Leste for the implementation of SDG4-Quality Education 2030 by development of the implementation strategy, key priorities, milestones, and actions towards the achievements of national targets and indicators as well as the establishment of the national coordination, partnerships strategy, and monitoring platform.

The meeting was participated by 120 representatives from the ministries and secretary of states, government institutions and educational centers, Universities, International Development Partners, UN Agencies, community based-organizations, educational experts, and mass media. The meeting was employed a combination of plenary sessions and parallel group discussions, and group presentation.

Mr. Antoninho Pires, Director General for Policy, Planning and Partnership, Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, officially opened the meeting. In his remarks, Mr. Pires conveyed his appreciation on behalf of the Government of Timor-Leste to UNESCO Jakarta for continuous support to improve the quality of Education in Timor-Leste. Mr. Shahbaz Khan, Director and Representative of UNESCO Jakarta was also present and deliver a welcome remarks on the opening session along with Ms. Cedelizia dos Santos, the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for UNESCO and Mr. Luis Aparicio Guterres, Director National, Ministry of Higher Education and culture

To end, the meeting has resulted the identification of recommendations, priorities of actions and ways to achieve each targets towards SDG4-Quality Education, in which the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sport will be the leading agency to coordinate and facilitate the implementation of SDG4 in Timor-Leste.
