UNESCO conducts teacher training and survey piloting with Banjarmasin Green Schools
5 February, Banjarmasin -- UNESCO Jakarta’s ESD Unit conducted a four-day mission to conduct preliminary student surveys and facilitate a training and activity monitoring session with teachers from its Green School Action Project, which promotes active-learning approaches to climate change and environmental education at twenty pilot schools in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan.
At the one-day session, teachers from twenty pilot schools discussed the progress, challenges and lessons learnt of their action projects. The training also provided the ESD team with an opportunity to survey the teachers’ awareness and knowledge of climate change and local environmental issues.
In addition, the ESD team visited seven schools in Banjarmasin to conduct a pre-test survey with students on climate change and environmental knowledge and awareness. Based on the feedback from this pre-test, the team plans to conduct a large-scale survey in Banjarmasin in March.
