UNESCO Organizes Initial Stakeholder Meeting to Support Tourism Education and Biodiversity in NTT Province
24 January 2014, Jakarta – To support initial stakeholder collaboration on the project ‘Biodiversity Education for Sustainable Tourism in Nusa Tenggara Timur Province’, UNESCO organized an inception meeting with representatives from the Ministry of Education and Culture, representatives from the Nusa Tenggara Timur Education Authority, Nusa Cendana University and the secondary vocational school SMKN 1 Kupang.
Under this project, UNESCO will support the development and piloting of teaching materials to tourism vocational schools that promote local biodiversity in NTT, including the Komodo Dragon.
During the meeting, stakeholders discussed and agreed to a list of criteria for the training materials as well as drafted a schedule for teaching training in NTT. The long-term goal of the project is that these materials may be used to promote the value of local biodiversity in NTT, both among tourism students at vocational schools as well as the general student population in secondary and tertiary education in the province. Next steps will include a mission to Kupang to monitor the initial teacher training of vocational educators.
