Job Description:

Under the authority and supervision of the Director of UNESCO Jakarta Office, and in collaboration with the multidisciplinary programme and administrative team of the Regional Bureau for Sciences in Asia and the Pacific and Cluster Office to Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Timor Leste, located in Jakarta, the incumbent will assume the following functions:

  • Interact with all relevant UNESCO entities in close consultation and supervision of the Director/Jakarta Office to progress and final reports on extra-budgetary projects presented to donors. Work closely as/when required with the other offices of the region.
  • Evaluate progress of establishment of girls’ education center in Tacloban city, Philippines, and prepare reports on progress of education center.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders involved in construction operations and schedule intermediate phases to ensure deadlines will be met during establishment of girls’ education center in Tacloban city.
  • Prepare briefs as necessary on the projects for fundraising with donors and for internal use, based on regional programme support and regional reports.
  • Coordinate UNESCO inputs in the stakeholder meetings on related projects and in all relevant UN coordination mechanisms, taking an active part in such meetings, providing inputs to joint assessments and analysis, policy development and programming, and ensuring appropriate follow-up on joint decisions;
  • Help to create projects and coordinate contract process and implementation of projects.
  • Submit to UNESCO Director Jakarta Office, monthly action-oriented reports on fundraising and management of the projects, clearly identifying and tracking follow-up actions and issues to be handled by the UNESCO Office/ Jakarta, along with proposed courses of action. In addition, immediately alert Director, Jakarta Office, of any urgent problem or follow-up action required, that call for backstopping and support or for institutional commitment.
  • Perform any other related task that may be assigned by the Director of Office/Jakarta


  1. Monthly reports including the achievements and pending activities for the effective accomplishments of the tasks, together with other related outcome. 
  2. Final Report at the end of contract period summarizing activities completed during the contract.


Required Qualification and Skills


  • Strong communication skills, both spoken and written;
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to analyze complex issues;
  • Ability to identify priority activities and assignments and make necessary adjustments as required;
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision, with efficiency, competence, integrity and in harmony with people of different backgrounds;
  • Team player with track proven record in working collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organizational goals and ensure timely delivery of results.
  • Well developed planning and organizational skills, with a reputation for being able to multi-task and meet agreed deadlines;

Work experience: Minimum 7 years of relevant experience as well as professional record in sciences sector and in programme coordination, preferably in governmental, intergovernmental, or non-governmental agencies. Significant experience in development work with an international organization is an advantage; A strong background in programme development and fundraising is also essential;
Education: An advanced university degree (Masters Degree or equivalent) from a recognized and reputable university in Natural Sciences, Business Administration, IT, engineering, and/or International Development;
Languages:  Must have fluency in spoken and written English and ability to draft documents and express views in a clear and concise manner.
Desirable: Strong communication, networking and negotiating skills. Knowledge of UN systems and procedures is an asset
